Avoiding Commercials and staying on track

Saying No to Commercials, Deals and Coupons

We’ve all been there, confronted with an offer that’s “only good today” or with coupon for a discount on a product we end up buying. Day in day out we are bombarded with advertisers and we suddenly prefer product A over product B. Before you know it, you seem to have spent more money than you intended.

The key thing to remember is that at the end of the day, you have a plan to stick to. No matter how great of a deal it is, if its not in your budget, you should steer clear. Businesses aren’t stupid, they aren’t going to lose money on too many sales. One way or another, they plan to make money off your sale. They might force you to purchase their product when you normally wouldn’t, or force you to purchase more than you really need.

Commercials are everywhere, from ads on our music, to billboards we pass in our way to work, we are bombarded. These ads are designed for one purpose only: to quickly get your attention, and they are good at what they do. If you’re not careful, they’ll suck you in.

I know it’s tough, it’s not like I’m immune to it either. I face the same challenges you face everyday. I know that today was Moe’s Monday and that I could have gotten a delicious burrito for $5, but I also know that I’ve got a budget that I’ve already spent a bit too much on already this month and should probably cut back at bit on. What it really comes down to is the fact that I know I’ve got a plan and I won’t let anything district me from it. Here are a couple of takeaway pointers to help you out:

1) Your plan is too strong to let a little distraction get to you

2) You are smarter than that, you know they’re up to no good

3) A week from now you’re not even going to remember that you didn’t buy that impulse purchase, but you will be glad that you have that money left

4) A little each day, a penny saved is a penny earned

I know its tough, but I believe that you an rise up and overcome
