How To Save Money This Back To School Season

How To Save Money This Back To School Season

Hi everybody, It’s Ben’s little sister Emily back at you again with another blog post! Now I don’t know your situation but I am a teenager who in the next year will be buying a car. I only have a summer job so it is hard to save money with this season coming up. Maybe you are a Mom trying to save some money. I hope these tips help!

Tip #1: Establish your wants over needs.IMG_0301

Stores always come out with the cutest supplies that aren’t needed. Last year I bought a index card holder that had dividers. All it did was collect dust in my locker while my ziplock bag did fine. Look back over the past year and see what you used and what you didn’t use. So while you are in the store have little conversations with yourself: “you are going into high school you don’t need a brand new set of colored pencils.” “Locker accessories really? You barely even use your locker.”

Tip #2: DIY!

In the last tip I mentioned how cute supplies are. If you really like it but don’t like the price, try to DIY it! There is a lot of good DIY back to school supply videos on youtube. Or check out Pinterest.

Tip #3: Don’t Splurge

Unless you really want to, don’t treat yourself with school supplies. When school starts, you might want to go to games and dances. Football games can cost $7 and Dances $15. So ask yourself “a very expensive bag or a season of football games?” I totally recommend getting a planner, but you don’t need a $50 one! (in my opinion, that is). I got my planner last year for $3 and I loved it!

Tip #4: Look to see if you have any supplies you didn’t use last year

Look around! You may just find a pencil or maybe a even a notebook you didn’t use.

Tip #5 Do you Research

Look around for the cheapest deals. Be sure to get some coupons! A quick Google search can help you find good prices. You can easily check out office supply stores like Staples and then compare to Amazon.com! Also, check out the article on “Having an attitude of never paying full price” for more research related tips!

Happy Saving! Have a good school year!

I know I gave some personal examples of things that didn’t work for me. You might try it and love it!
