Where can I cash in a Savings bond?

I got a question the other day from a reader asking me where one would go about cashing in savings bond.

Short Answer: Your local bank (any bank should work but the one you bank with probably would be the easiest). Just bring the actual savings bond in (it should have your name on it) and your ID. Cash money! Thanks grandparents!

The government actually doesn’t issue paper saving bonds anymore, you purchase them online. They used to be a cool novelty for grandparents to give their grand-kids (i.e. us) but they’re not really as cool as they used to be. If you find some laying around you house, definitely cash them in! Even if the savings bond has already matured, it’ll still earn interest.

So if you’ve got them, feel free to cash them in at your local bank. I just am not sure how great on investments or novelty gifts that they make today!
