Jobs that allow you to give back

Jobs that allow you to give back

One of the big things that college students or young professionals today struggle with is figuring out what they want to be when they ‘grow up’, i.e. what type of a job they want to hold. We all look for different thing in jobs, whether money, who we’re able to work with, or what we’re actually doing. For some of us, helping others is important. If your caring nature is a big part of your life and you want to find a job helping others, there definitely consider making a career out of it! Check out these jobs, and you should feel that you are making the most of that ability within yourself to be truly caring. Remember that many of these roles require criminal record checks, so if you do have a record, you may begin to see the consequences of having a criminal record while applying for them. Check requirements before applying.

Nursing

If you think you would like to be in a medical setting, then one of the best options available to you is nursing. Being a nurse can be demanding in terms of long shifts, but can also be very rewarding with helping others. Nursing is a growing job field with lots of opportunities. The pay can be quite nice and there is room for advancement within the healthcare system. You will of course need to get the right training and qualifications, and that will mean that you should look into the likes of some online nursing masters to prepare. Do that, and then you can quickly land yourself a nursing job, which could be the most rewarding job you ever have.

Counselling

If the sight of blood makes you queasy, perhaps you may consider use your abilities to help people with their mental health instead. Mental health requires professional help just like a physical injury or illness does, with the same type of compassionate support. If you think that this is something you would be good at, then you might want to think about finding a course in counseling and pursuing that as a career. Make sure you’re a good listener, patient, and have the ability to offer guidance and support without trying to change a person’s worldview.

Social Work

Finally, if healthcare work doesn’t seem to be for you, there are many people out there who could use your help in other ways, as a social worker. Social work is the kind of thing that you might want to consider if you’re interested in helping your community on the whole. Being a social worker might not seem glamorous, but it is a highly respectable line of work and allows you to make good use of your caring skills. Consider this, and look into the many options available, if you think it’s the kind of thing that you are likely to do well at.

Some advice I got while applying for jobs my senior year of college was to “find a job that you’ll be making the world a better place, even a little bit”. I’ve tried to apply this in my own life and you may consider it too!
