Celebrating my 8 year anniversary

Celebrating my 8 year anniversary

Every year around this time I like to do a quick post celebrating another year of blogging. It’s always a bit surreal for me to think back to January 2013 when I put out my first blog post “Welcome to YoungMoneyFinance”. At the time I was halfway looking for a creative outlet and halfway looking for a side hustle. Joke was on me as it took 5 years before this actually turned into a side hustle – but hey – hard work pays off! Here we are, 8 years later and I’m still having fun, still learning, and still am putting out articles that based on feedback and site stats, appear to be resonating with young professionals! Please join me in taking a brief walk down memory lane for the 8th year of the blog!

Thank You

Firstly, I’d love to do a big “Thank You” to all my family, fans and both frequent and new visitors to the blog. The goal of this blog is to provide modern, relevant and easy to understand financial knowledge to our readers. Navigating life as a young professional is tough – even for a personal financial blogger like me! I’ve had a lot of life experiences so far, and am thankful for this creative outlet to share and hopefully impart some wisdom if you find yourself in a similar situation. Thanks for stopping by the site, thanks for reading articles, thanks for commenting, sharing, or telling friends about the site!

A few special thanks go out to Mrs. Money for her support of this blog and my writing habit, MommaMoney for always being their to proofread (which I’ll admit, I’m not the best at), special friends of the blog – Adam, Jonathan and David who are always there with feedback, ideas and encouragement!

Big hits of 2020

Although this year I didn’t have any huge hits like I have in the past around: Crossfit, Costco, or having my car stolen, it was still a great year of learning for me, with lots of new articles and content to share. Some of the top hits were:

COVID and your personal finances – a great article right at the beginning when we were all a bit panicky and unsure of what in the world was going on.

COVID stimulus checks – a short little post breaking down what it was, who gets them and how much, and my thoughts on how to use the money

My predictions moving forward post COVID – this will be a fun one to revisit for the 1 year anniversary of this post – sadly COVID is lasting a lot longer than I think any of us thought!

Reflections after resting – in late summer we were able to sneak away (safely) to the beach and get some R&R. I did a lot of reflecting on the importance of relaxing and how to do it / get better at it!

Future plans for the blog

Unfortunately, my financial guides haven’t been as much of a hit as I would have liked them to be, which I guess is ok for me to admit that. I really thought they were quality guides and would have been better received! I’ll still keep them up if you’d like to take a look, and they are all just $0.99 by the way!

I think I’d like to get a little more tactfully focused moving forward. 2020 was a crazy year, and a lot of my posts were more pie in the sky, high level perspective / reflections. Although it was good for me to do, perhaps not the most compelling content to be reading on a financial blog! I’ve also come to reflect that just because I’m good at personal finance doesn’t mean everyone else is, and so it can smart for me to cover more basics and open up more on how and why I do things to manage my money.

Finally – please always feel free to reach out via the Contact Us form on the site, or by emailing me – ben AT youngmoneyfinance.com. Always happy to hear from readers like you – or if you have blog post topics that you’d like to share I’m all ears!

Thank you thank you for all your support of YoungMoneyFinance and here’s to year number 8!
