One thing the COVID pandemic has left many of us with is more time on our hands, and unfortunately for many, short on money. With the increased unemployment rates of the post-pandemic society, there’s definitely plenty of demand for side hustles to help supplement or even carry the bulk of our income. The internet offers a unique opportunity to safely (in regard to COVID) earn a little extra income!

Depending on your skillset, your side hustles could range from blogging (like I do), to gig type work, to virtual assistants, or even stock or crypto trading. Stock trading has always been popular, and even more so now, especially with low cost (or no cost) brokerages. Make How-to Videos on YouTube 

Video creation and sharing are one of those modern-day sources of income generation. Some teenagers are millionaires because of video sharing. For more views, make easy-going, non-political, and universal videos. The themes could range from comedy, fashion to DIYs.

During this pandemic, people have the time to browse the web. BabyMoneyFinance is a HUGE fan of all things trucks, and I’m amazed when I see some of these videos racking up MILLIONS of views. If you post your videos consistently, the social media algorithm will suggest your videos to various crowds. Therefore, ensure you create high-resolution videos to have a competitive advantage. Sites like YouTube will start sharing some of the ad revenue with you – of course it’s really only worth your time if you’re able to find a hit on your hands.

Start a Podcast

Mrs. Money and I actually started a podcast during the COVID pandemic, all about our love of Formula1. Podcasting just requires a microphone (even regular headphones with a mic can work), and a laptop with free recording software. Earning from a podcast comes in the form of affiliate marketing. If you’ve listened to a podcast before you’re probably familiar with them, “I love _______ and if you go to their site and use our promo code, you’ll get 10% off”. Mrs. Money and I haven’t worked to monetize just yet – we’re only doing about a dozen listens each episodes so we’re trying to get more before we try to get ads.

Podcasts are an alternative to video creation. If you are shy in front of a camera but have decent articulation, podcasts are for you. Moreover, they can be a platform to promote your products for sale.  If it is not too overwhelming, you can do both podcasts and YouTube recordings of your podcasting for fans that enjoy visual content

Teach English

There is a high demand for English tutors in China, Taiwan, and Korea. If you are a native English speaker (you come from the US or UK),  you have a skill you can turn into cash. Most importantly, you do not have to go all the way to those countries; you can do it via specialized platforms.

Some of these platforms include: Teach Away for Chinese students, iTutorGroup.com for children and adults in Taiwan, the English Hunt for Korean adult students. If you are not from a country that is not among the native English speakers, get a TEFL certificate from the numerous free English courses online.

Web Development

Website creation is simpler than ever before with innovations such as WordPress and Wix. To come up with a website, you will need to learn a few steps through YouTube tutorials, and you will be on your way. With many people getting into blogging, website creators are in high demand now more than ever at a decent fee. One great site I’ve used is Fiverr – a freelance site where you can get help or offer help!
