Hidden benefits of an electric vehicle

Hidden benefits of an electric vehicle

Electric cars are becoming incredibly popular, and there are plenty of reasons why. There are lots of benefits to buying an EV, both for the environment and for your wallet. Mrs. Money and I had one a few years ago and absolutely loved it. We’re planning on getting another one once it’s time to replace one of our current vehicles. If you’re thinking of purchasing one, here are five great reasons why:

1 . Reduce your carbon footprint

The UCS reported that ‘Our personal vehicles are a major cause of global warming. Collectively, cars and trucks account for nearly one-fifth of all US emissions, emitting around 24 pounds of carbon dioxide and other global-warming gases for every gallon of gas.’ The good news is that electric vehicles are far more earth-friendly!

According to research from the EDF, electric cars are greener than traditional vehicles. ‘They emit fewer greenhouse gases and air pollutants than petrol or diesel cars. And this takes into account their production and electricity generation to keep them running.’ Electric cars do not emit carbon dioxide, so they do not pollute the air like traditional cars!

2. A comfortable drive

When we first got our electric vehicle, people would often give us a hard time, joking that it’s like driving a golf cart, it’s really slow and clunky. However, we quickly noticed that the vehicle is very quiet and comfortable! The driving experience is smooth and comfortable, you’ll be feeling pretty relaxed on the roads! EVs are known for having instant torque, (so they feel very powerful). We we were needing an adrenaline rush we’d take it off eco mode which in many ways felt like a race car jumping off a starting line. Electric vehicles are great at handling corners and are perfect for driving in the city. Before you choose an EV, be sure to take the car for a test run as it does take a it of getting used to!

3. EVs are the future

According to Deloitte Insights, EV sales will reach 11.2 million by 2025 and then ‘31.1 million by 2030.’ As we become more focused on climate change, consumers are looking for the greenest solutions. From our groceries to our clothing and our cars, modern customers want the most earth-friendly solutions. With so many great features, it’s no wonder so many people are switching to an EV.

4. Save yourself money

Driving an electric vehicle is a great way to save money. Consumers can stand to save thousands of dollars on fuel,  if they purchase an EV. Mrs. Money and I estimated we spent about $20 on electricity for the entire month to keep the car running, and we drove it almost daily! $20!!!! Electric cars don’t require as much maintenance work as conventional cars, (so you’ll also save money here). Say goodbye to oil changes! Thirdly, EV’s don’t experience the same depreciation that traditional vehicles do.

Switching to an EV is a great way to save money on your car expenses. There are many other ways that you can save money such as:

  • Monitor your gas consumption and gas prices using GasBuddy.
  • Shop around for insurance discounts.
  • Reduce your driving time and go green.
  • Fight unfair traffic tickets with GetDismissed traffic ticket dismissal.
  • Purchase a second-hand car.
  • Take a defensive driving course.

Purchasing an EV

There are plenty of benefits to purchasing an electric vehicle. Before you commit to a car, ensure that you shop around, and check the credentials of the car dealership. It can help to make a list of your needs first. Think about what’s most important to you whether it’s price, condition, performance or model. Take your time to find the right EV for you.
