Making money while out of work

Making money while out of work

Losing a job or getting laid off is a pretty scary proposal. I lived through a mass layoff a few years ago and it was not fun. Hopefully if you are unexpectedly let go you’ll be provided with some severance pay (typically a few weeks worth of pay) to hold you over. That along with an emergency fund that I insist that everybody have will hopefully hold you over while you look for a new job. However, depending on the job market and availability of good jobs in your area, this may be tough. While you look, if you are looking to help make ends meet, consider getting a short-term side hustle. Such a side hustle could really help pay the bills until you’re able to find more steady work.

Freelance

There really are more than enough websites out there for you to take on some freelance work (Fiverr for example). When you join a site, you will then have access to a ton of hourly jobs. They can include everything from graphic design to data entry and even transcribing too. What’s great about jobs like this is that they are always based around your own skills and talent, and you can work on them at any time of the day. This means that you can spend whatever time you have left in the day job searching. Another great Freelance idea is driving for Uber or Lyft. As long as you’ve got a nice enough car, you can start driving and earning money on your time.

Take an Online Survey

Another popular way for you to make money at work is to take online surveys. A lot of companies will pay you for doing a survey with them and the best thing about it is that you can do it all at your own convenience. There are plenty of sites out there for you to choose from and you can make a good amount of money doing this too. If you do a lot of surveys in one day then this is especially the case and you would be surprised at how helpful this can be to your weekly budget.

Virtual Assistant

Sometimes when people get swamped with work, it helps to have someone who they can count on to lighten the load. If you are able to devote some of your free time to helping someone else, then this can really help you to make some money and it gives them someone reliable who they can count on. You can help people with any tasks that they need, such as providing research, emailing or even providing lunch reservations. There are even sites out there who can help you to connect with people who need a personal assistant too, so it is important to keep that in mind. Of course, if you are out of work because of a personal injury then it is always a good idea for you to contact some injury lawyers to see if they can help.

Blog

Blogging can really take a lot of work (I know firsthand!). You can’t just launch a blog and attract a massive audience overnight. You need to put in the effort and you also need to plan out ways of making money while your blog is launching. It also helps to follow some of the top and most prestigious bloggers out there so that they can give you some ideas on how to start your own. If you are stuck as to what you would like to blog about then think about your hobbies and what you are passionate about. You can then begin to take your hobby to that next level by talking to your audience who also have a keen interest.

If you find yourself out of work, it’s certainly not a fun time. Keep you head up, stay positive and consider a side hustle while you make ends meet!
